Having all this good Hip Hop music come out at the same time makes it inherently complicated to decide the best way of spending $10, so I figured I would link up all the new and just-released album streams here in one place and then you can make an informed decision.

Prodigy & Alchemist :: Albert Einstein (April 12th)

Talib Kweli :: Prisoner of Conscious (May 7th)

Havoc :: 13 (May 7th)

Apollo Brown, Red Pill & Verbal Kent :: Ugly Heroes (May 21st)

Action Bronson & Harry Fraud :: Saaab Stories EP (June 10th)

Murs & The White Mandingos :: The Ghetto is Tryna Kill Me (June 11th)

Kanye West :: Yeezus (June 18th)

2012 Third Quarter Releases

Blu & Exile finally deliver their dope follow up to “Below The Heavens” (2007)

Lots of big retail releases dotted this part of the year, compared to earlier – which is nice actually because the year started very slowly for me in terms of projects I was looking forward to. I ended up listening to a lot of older releases, especially from 2011’s strong year but things are coming around in time for a good end-of-year list! I can’t vouch for every release listed here, I can honestly say I’ve been quite lazy in terms of listening to and buying new music this quarter.

Nas “Life is Good”

A great effort, minus a few tracks in the middle of the album. His 11th solo album, if you count “The Lost Tapes,” collection in 2002. I loved his previous collaboration album with Damian Marley, 2010’s “Distant Relatives.”

Blu & Exile “Give Me My Flowers …”

Blu & Exile’s follow up to their 2007 classic album “Below The Heavens,” originally released unmastered about a year ago & yanked offline, this is the re-release after it was finished. An amazing and soulful follow up, worth the wait for the high quality version.

Slaughterhouse “Welcome to our House”

Another I was real excited to buy, and I’ve loved it – some filler yes, and not the “same” Slaughterhouse but this is what fans hoped the release would be.

Skyzoo “Dreams vs Reality EP”

Additional tracks (& a free download) available here. Call it a prequel to his forthcoming album, “A Dream Deferred” which should be on my next list, with an October 2nd street date. I always pick up Skyzoo’s new albums, a dope and underappreciated artist.

DMX “Undisputed”

DMX latest album, his first since 2006 & it’s got pretty good reviews so far on iTunes.

Curren$y & Harry Fraud link up for the “Cigarette Boats EP” (free – 5 tracks). Curren$y is always good, free Curren$y is better!

Mello Music Group dropped two releases this quarter, everything they put out is alright by me. Substantial’s “Home Is Where The Art Is” & 7even Thirty’s album “Heaven’s Computer” – both available on their Bandcamp page for stream / purchase in addition to iTunes.

This Kanye West G.O.O.D. Music label joint “Cruel Summer” dropped, on iTunes or AmazonMP3, plus rumor there is a “Cruel Winter” album coming too … I was dissatisfied Common only makes one track and it features 6 other MCs.

Murs & Fashawn “This Generation” collaboration album, on iTunes or AmazonMP3 should be dope, I haven’t had a chance to check it yet.

Brother Ali “Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color”

Brother Ali’s new album was on my anticipated list and it certainly has delivered based on initial impressions! An always dope and informed MC, Brother Ali has contributed another great effort to his thought-provoking catalog and right in time for the 2012 Presidential Election.

Lupe Fiasco’s sequel album “Food & Liquor 2” on iTunes or AmazonMP3. Lupe’s last album was half amazing and half filler, the reviews look a bit better on this one but I’m still skeptical.

Big K.R.I.T.’s “Live From The Underground” album is super dope

Three more months are behind us in the year, which means it’s time for part two of four posts (maybe 5?) I’m planning on recapping. This list compiles April – June’s best releases in the forms of albums, mixtapes. Don’t forget to check out the 2012 first quarter releases post!)

2012 First Quarter Releases

Action Bronson & Party Supplies deliver the 1st quarter hit …

The first quarter of 2012 is beyond us, and here’s a quick linkback to some of the hottest projects of the first quarter. I’m doing this so I can come up with an end-of-year post, but you can follow along as we move through the year rather than just at the end when a lot of these projects would’ve otherwise been missed in the freshness!

Slaughterhouse “Hammer Dance” (iTunes) single – Can’t wait for their new album, Slaughterhouse machine taking over with Shady behind the release. Crooked I’s newest mixtape got pushed back until further notice.

Apollo Brown & OC (from Trophies album (release date April 24th 2012) – my MOST anticipated project of 2012? Maybe so.

Brother Ali “The Bite Marked Heart” EP (February 2012) – Brother Ali’s newest entry just continues solidifying him as a top tier MC + Phonte has an awesome feature.

Action Bronson “Blue Chips” mixtape (March 2012) – Couldn’t hardly wait to listen when this dropped, and it was just as amazing as I expected from Action.

Ski Beatz Ski Beatz 24 Hour Karate School Presents “Twilight” (iTunes) (February 2012) – ignore the title, this is Ski’s best Karate School release & it’s comprised of “leftovers” Dame pushed him to release.

Wiz Khalifa “Taylor Allerdice” mixtape (March 2012) – not the best work, in my opinion but it’s a dope free album.

Schoolboy Q “Habits & Contradictions” (iTunes) (January 2012) – TDE keeps their releases going strong, after Kendrick Lamar’s last album Section 80.

JR & PH7, St. Joe Louis & Broken Englsh “My Favorite Demons” (iTunes) EP Album (January 2012) – one of my favorite producer teams, and two groups combine for an amazing experience. Real smooth Hip Hop.

Big K.R.I.T. “4EvaNADay” mixtape (March 2012) – perhaps my favorite project so far from the Def Jam signee.

Curren$y “Here” EP (February 2012) – always dope to hear new Spitta, even if it is only 5 tracks.
